Safe Air Schools aims to improve the air quality inside educational settings to ensure safe, inclusive, and sustainable education for all children.
Just as clean water and access to books are essential for every child's growth, our hope is for clean air in all classrooms to nourish minds, and bodies and ensure a bright future for all. We will:
Advocate for safe, equitable education for all children and school staff
Empower young people and staff to advocate for themselves inside education buildings
Educate on indoor air pollution, monitoring and mitigation that is backed by experts
Promote safe and cost-effective air filtration, appropriate to individual school settings
Campaign to update the Department for Education's ventilation standards to ensure they comply with those recommended by the British Council for Offices (2023) which advises keeping CO₂ below 800ppm
Lobby for a legal obligation that all new school buildings and existing structures (that can be retrofitted) should be upgraded to mechanical ventilation systems, ideally with heat recovery (MVHR)
Support the Clean Air (Human Rights) Bill
